What:
Woodwind & Brass Audition material:
- Major Scales & Chromatic Scale: Students should review the Colleyville Heritage Scale Performance Standards sheet for scoring rubric and attempt to perform all 12 Major Scales and their Chromatic Scale, full range for their instrument. Please use pg. 44 in the Foundations of Excellence (Blue Book) for the accepted "full-range" of each scale. The following are guidelines to maximize your score on the scales
- The most important aspect of any scale is a great tone on your instrument!
- The second most important quality of your scale should be correct notes and maximum range you are capable playing.
- The final aspect of your scales is tempo. Tempo should be steady and should allow you to sound your best. Tempo should never be "fast" to show off technique. If you can play all of your notes with a great tone and full range, then you can increase tempo.
- Download the Scale Performance Standards Etude HERE
- Metronome Etude: Students will prepare and perform the "Metronome Etude" as provided. Read the instructions carefully and perform the etude with your best tone, articulation and musicianship.
- Download the Metronome Etude HERE
- Sight-Reading: Student will have 30 seconds to silently finger an 8 measure piece at the UIL HS Level III sight-reading level. Perform the Sight-Reading with your best tone, articulation and musicianship. Be sure to keep a steady tempo while you play!
